AORN Congress 2003 delegate report
Donna Preisler
It was my honor to serve as an alternate delegate to the 50th annual AORN Congress, in Chicago. The week started socially, with a ‘netters meeting’ at Rosie O’Shea’s, within the Chicago Hilton. I met many members from across the country that I correspond with on a regular basis. It was exciting to put names with faces!
The opening session was spectacular as always, I was so proud to see our President, Dawn Kladis walk in the Parade of Presidents! It brought back fond memories for me!
I am constantly in awe of the number of perioperative registered nurses that attend this conference, and to see us all in one place is so impressive.
I served as a session assistant for two sessions, and enjoyed every moment of it. Being a state volunteer was an honor as well! I met so many people while performing this duty!
I attended as many education sessions as time allowed, and found each of them to be more interesting and impressive than the next. I do believe that my favorite was ‘Your role in the prevention of surgical site infection’ by Dr. Fred Alexander. He drove home so many points that served as reminders to all in attendance the importance of asepsis in the OR.
The gala proved to be a very entertaining experience this year. I could not believe the transformation of Union Station!
I thank you for this opportunity to serve, once again!
